About This Event

Welcome to AI 101 for Archives and Museums, Part 3!

Join us at Mann Library of the Cornell Library at Cornell University for a workshop where you'll be part of a community discussing intersections between artificial intelligence and concerns of archival and museum work. Kim Nayyer of Cornell University will discuss artificial intelligence, intellectual property, and ethics of big data, among other topics. Nayyer is active as a leader and advocate through U.S. and Canadian law library organizations and has extensive experience in copyright and intellectual property issues. In addition to her expertise in comparative copyright, she has specializations related to Indigenous knowledge protection and inclusion, diversity, equity, and decolonization in legal education, libraries, and professional leadership. Her research interests include critical information literacy in machine-manipulated environments, disinformation, digital citizenship, and data ownership issues and public online participation. Her talk with be followed by question-and-answer.

The second half of the workshop provides an opportunity to learn about cutting-edge work undertaken by Yale University. Robert Sanderson will present work in progress at Yale University that connects collections across libraries, archives, and museums. As Senior Director for Digital Cultural Heritage, he is deeply involved in artificial intelligence applications in and across each sector. He holds an additional role as Fractional Associate University Librarian for Digital Strategy, guiding library initiatives for connectivity and discoverability across digital holdings.

A discussion period will allow members of the community of practice to provide introductions to their work applying or analyzing AI in archives and museums. A light lunch will be served for on-site participants.
